2024.11.15 16:08 Inevitable-Feedback6 first haul to uk any advice? (joyabuy 5.2kg)
2024.11.15 15:56 Character_Let_7977 What is my best option for drying clothes in this situation? (UK)
I am 22, still living with my parents and sister. This year, i’ve done a lot of finding myself and therefore have changed my clothing style drastically. Due to this, i’ve opted to washing my own clothes seperately to my parents, which they’re fine with, but with the coming winter here in the UK, i’m struggling to dry them. The reason for washing my own clothes is because my style involves much more expensive clothes than my family, so I want to wash them on lower temps and different settings.
During the Summer i put them on the line and they dried fine within a day, but now they don’t get dry outside. My parents have a clothes airer but it’s constantly in use with their normal or work clothes, so when i come to do my bi-weekly wash, (it’s easier for me to just do one big wash of the clothes i’ve worn over a couple of weeks) I don’t have the chance to use the airer as it impedes on them doing their drying.
Therefore, i’ve figured I have a few choices to pick from for myself:
- Buying my own airer to put up in my room. If I have the window open and use my tower fan, i figure this could be a decent option, however my room is quite small and I’d be worried about mould.
- Buying an airer and dehumidifier for my room. This would solve the mould problem but would be expensive.
- Using the tumble dryer. This would work well but i’d be worried about shrinking my clothes because as I said before they are expensive and i don’t want to replace them for this reason. This would also raise the bills for my parents which I don’t really want to do.
I’m not sure what to do but hoping the internet can help, thank you! If there are other options please let me know haha.

2024.11.15 15:56 zerric- Missing items in order
I recently bought an item from a seller in the UK (I live in the US). The item was a board game listed as used but 100% complete. However, on opening the package, I found some components were missing which make it unplayable.
The seller is offering to send me the missing components, but I only have 19 days left in my return window for returning it as INAD. The original item took 21 days to reach.
How do I protect myself if the seller doesn’t send me the components/sends me the wrong components and my return window closes?

2024.11.15 15:49 Mountain_Pay_7207 Pafory Advent Calendar 2024
Hi all!
Just need some opinion to see if I’m being a bit unnecessarily upset about it.
I’ve seen advertisements on social media about the PAFORY advent calendar and I loved the idea. I was a bit hesitant as at the end of the day you’re just getting 24 sample vials, but in a lot of cases it’s perfumes or houses I wouldn’t have a chance to try. Plus I thought it would be nice as I’ve never had an advent calendar before and I loved the presentation. This, I decided to treat myself and ordered it in October and it cost me €149.
It arrived yesterday (I live in the UK). I was super excited to open just to find out that the advent calendar arrived damaged. I’ve checked some of the vials so I think they’re all intact (although I’ll double check this evening). But I still feel a little let down. The price is also partially for the packaging and the presentation. Like was it too much to put to bubble or foam wrap for this price. It could’ve still been damaged but at least they would’ve tried?
Just need some external opinion whether I should raise it with customer support. Or just accept that it is what it is.
I can’t add pictures, but one of the calendar “walls/sides” is practically coming off of. If it was just a minor visual tear I wouldn’t mind it as much.

Just received my case today ( I have never been so excited to receive a phone case 🫣). It took 10 working days to arrive (I thought this was good considering delivered to UK). I love it, it’s only been on my phone 30 minutes and have found no issues. Buttons are all working as they should but dbrand did include a hot fix sticker if they werent It fits like a glove, lightweight but still feels sturdy to protect phone. I also got the Prism 2.0 and it’s definitely worth the extra, can hardly see it with case on and screen touches are still as responsive then without. Overall my experience was been positive and will be recommending. 😊 submitted by Pure_Confection7929 to dbrand [comments] |
2024.11.15 15:44 Ill-Potato-7131 C section date advice
I’m 33 weeks and 3 days, and have today been put on insulin. I have had GD since 26 weeks and been on metformin since 28 weeks. I am in the UK and have requested an appointment with a consultant to discuss a C section, and have this appointment next week at 34 weeks. Has anyone else requested a C section for 38 weeks in the UK? Or is it standard for it to be 39 weeks? Trying to prepare myself for my appointment and have realistic expectations. My midwife is confident I will be allowed a C section due to the GD diagnosis and being on the meds, but looking for any advice or experience with asking for a C section with GD and asking for it to take place at 38 weeks?

2024.11.15 15:42 FinalBrilliant9343 Can my employer deduct from my pay based on their mistake?
This morning I have received a letter from my company stating that they have discovered that a change that they made to employee/employer pension contributions from the start of 2024 has not been put in place. They have made incorrect employee contributions the entire year.
The letter outlines that this money will be deducted for our contributions either in full from this month’s pay if we do nothing, or in 3 instalments over the next 3 pay days if we e-mail them requesting this within 3 working days.
This applies to every employee in the company and the amounts will differ depending on length of service (i.e. whether they joined part way through 2024) and of course salary.
Understandably, people are frustrated because 1. It is not their fault, and 2. It being right before Christmas!
In our contracts of employment we have signed up to the % contributions that they should’ve been taking, and them reclaiming will rectify the error. However, given this is the employers mistake, is this legal?
Thank you!

2024.11.15 15:38 Prestigious-Load-114 Boss telling us to dispose of amalgam by putting it down the sink :update:
First of all thank you for all the replies to the previous post, I’ve read every single one and have taken things into consideration. I also wanted to say that I am based in the UK.
So a couple of days ago one of the older nurses decided to go to one of the managers (we have two managers and two bosses who are husband and wife) regarding the amalgam disposal issue and said that she does NOT want to take part in it. The manger then told the other 3 about this and decided to hold a “meeting” 4 vs 1. The one manager and two bosses came on their day off just for this. In the end they decided to reduce her pay, take her off her main job at the practice, and gave her all the jobs that don’t require a qualified nurse.
Is there anything about this that is illegal? Is this practice not doing things right or is this normal? I’ve only started 5 weeks ago and I don’t know what to think.

2024.11.15 15:22 Lazy-Meat Training in the recovery phase..
Hi all,
Apologies for the annoying post that i am sure has been asked before, but really benefiting from this sub and the information available.
Long story short, i have been dealing with back injuries my whole life on and off. Injured my lower back 6 months ago cycling and playing golf. Haven’t had any MRI’s (UK NHS not great…) but chiro/osteo/physio all saying it’s SI Joint issues rather than a bulging disk.
I have read back mechanic, i am doing the big 3 daily, swimming twice a week, one gym session at the moment with press ups, glute raises etc. I am now really keen to keep progressing and add in extra exercises to my strength programme, add in more days training and get back to what i was doing before.
My question though is how much does everyone train during their recovery? I understand everyone’s recovery is totally different, some will walk and stretch, others may train 6 days a week.
I have always used a scale of 1-10 to figure how much pain/discomfort i’m in, but i know the back mechanic doesnt particularly like that scale. Each to their own which is fine. When i had a bad flare up 3 weeks ago i couldn’t get out of bed for 3 days, then just walked and felt better, and after 10 days i actually had 2/3 days where i felt 100% pain free. Then i added in swimming/core exercises at a very low rate and while not in a lot of pain, i still feel a niggle and i guess discomfort more than anything. It’s made me think the only time i am 100% pain free is when i simply do nothing apart from walk. But, i know we need to be moving around alot and exercising.
I feel i have been let down by the NHS so have gone private for Osteopaths and physios but still not overly impressed. Really just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat, and has absolutely no idea the difference between DOMs and pain?
Is this small discomfort/niggle just my back recovering, and with progressive overload it will feel like this for a while? or, should we be 100% pain free at all times and i am delaying the recovery by exercising?
Thanks

2024.11.15 15:19 Select_Letterhead967 Homebrew kit newbie – have I killed my yeast?
Hi all,
I’m new to this whole thing and have started to move away from ciders and onto beer kits.
I set up a 40 pint milk stout kit on the 2nd October but it didn’t keep the required ambient temp of 18-20°c for the first week (kitchen was 14-16° due to falling temp in the UK)
It’s now at the proper temp and has been for the past 5 days or so, but I’m not seeing any signs of fermentation.
Is the original yeast dead? Do I need to add more yeast? I don’t want to chuck it all away, is there anything I can do to save it?
Thanks!

2024.11.15 15:11 mxadema Cue the tire frenzy
To everyone complaining about salt trucks and school shutdown.
To the one frantically calling tire shop today and next week to grt tire on (since they are all booked for 2-3week)
And to the one wondering if they should go out and the road conditions.
WELCOME TO WINTER IN NB.
Rule #1 drive according to the conditions, or if you are uneasy, don’t. Lights on, and no need to drive 40kmh on the hw. If so, take a side road. Leave early enough so that you are not in a rush.
Rule #2 4×4 and awd give a false sense of the conditions. Going is never the problem. Stoping is. Awd doesn’t help with that
Rule #3 tires people, tires. Winter specific, with the snow flake and thread on them. When you buy a new vehicle, get steel rims. And put them on around remembrance day. It is a great time, and it will save you money after 2y switching over.
Rule #4 understands that we have a small crew of plow drivers and a lot of roads and are funded with pocket change from the province. They will do the major road beforehand. And salt doesn’t work, without traffic, in heavy snow, bellow -10, and on thick ice cover road. Refer to rules 1 & 3 for driving tips.
Rule #4: Leave plenty of space in front of you. Both sor stopping, and if the person in front of you can climb the hill, you dont fully stop.
Edit Rule#5 clean your vehicle, all the windows and Snow
Overall, be prepared, dont crash because of ice. It is the south of the province here, and it freezes rain a lot.
And thanks a plow driver.

2024.11.15 15:10 Single_Marketing_320 Connection help
I consider that the average civ player is above average intelligence, we’re smarter than those that elect to invest their time in, let’s say, Fortnite, for example.
That’s my supposition. My hypothesis if you will. Apparently we also need to submit a null hypotheses when hypothesising, the null hypothesis is “nope we’re not smart in the slightest” I always thought that part of the scientific method was a waste of time. But there ya go.
Anyway here’s a time line and a couple of issues, feel free to comment:
1: moved property 2: internet set up and working fine 3: 3 days later internet goes down 4: engineer 1 can’t fix 5: engineer 2 can’t fix 6: engineer 3 booked for Monday. This is UK so this engineer is an open reach one. 7: I can’t play civ without the internet – I only play MP, I play on PS5 8: got a dongle for work 9: I can connect to PlayStation using dongle or phone hotspot 10: I have a Nat type issue when using these mediums of connection I guess. I can join a party but can only talk/hear from people in the UK in said party. Cannot talk/healisten to people outside of the UK in the party. 11: can’t connect to online civ lobbies. 12: I don’t trust the engineer will fix it on Monday, besides I want to play civ this weekend anyway.
So questions: 1: anyone got any idea how I might be able to connect / solve Nat type issue for dongle/hotspot? 2: what makes the internet randomly stop working (outside my property), after it works flawlessly for 3 days? This is just to satisfy my curiosity honestly.
Not sure I can go another weekend without listening to the despair in someone’s voice during my bombing runs after they’ve worked hard to build up their proud nation for 2-4 hours.

2024.11.15 15:07 Echoprice I started taking Naltrexone using The Sinclair Method over two years ago. Here’s my journey.
In 2021, I watched Claudia Christian’s TED Talk. I knew I had a problem, and this seemed like the answer. I tried to buy some Nal online, but the websites looked dodgy, with deliveries from India to the UK, and they wouldn’t accept card payments. Spending over £150 on something that might never arrive felt like too much of a risk, so I decided not to go through with the order.
A year later, things hadn’t improved, and were actually getting worse. I watched the TED Talk again and then decided to buy the audiobook The Cure for Alcoholism. I was also lurking on this subreddit, reading a lot of advice. In 2022, I finally took the plunge and ordered a two-month supply from an online company, which initially seemed dodgy as they don’t take debit card payments for the first shipment, but they do after. I’m not sure what the rules are about naming companies, so I won’t in this post. However, they’ve been 100% reliable, and after that first order, things got much easier.
The order arrived just before I went on holiday. While I was away, I listened to the audiobook and read as many posts on here as I could, mentally preparing myself to start when I got home.
Day one: 25mg (half dose). Oh my god, what is this? Nobody mentioned the side effects would be like this, I felt like I needed to go to the hospital! I nearly called the non-emergency helpline (UK 101). I didn’t in the end, and things calmed down after about 90 minutes, and I had a drink. I didn’t really feel like drinking, mainly because I didn’t feel well. I realised I’d taken it on an empty stomach, which in hindsight is never a good idea with new medication.
Day two: 25mg again, but this time with a full stomach. I was more prepared for the side effects this time, but they were much milder. I waited the 60 minutes, had a glass of wine, and it didn’t taste great. I’m not sure if it was a placebo, but the glass lasted half the evening and I only had another half-glass of wine after that.
For the following week, I continued with the 25mg dose, and Nal truly felt like a miracle drug. I felt free and didn’t even want to drink. I told myself to keep going because every session was an extinction session, helping to rewire my brain. The alcohol definitely didn’t taste as good as it used to.
Over the next few weeks, I was so happy. My old drinking habit was half a bottle of wine with dinner, a gin and tonic, and maybe a large glass of vodka mixer or another glass of wine during the week (with 1-2 days off). Then from Friday to Sunday, I would drink heavily from lunchtime until I fell asleep. Now, however, I was drinking 1-2 glasses of wine, and that was it, with 3-4 days a week not drinking at all. I even made it to the gym on Mondays, which was usually impossible because the weekend hangovers were too bad to attempt a session before Wednesday.
After about a month, the wine was starting to go down more easily, so I upped my dose to the full 50mg. As soon as I did, alcohol stopped tasting as nice again, and I became a bit complacent. The honeymoon period everyone talked about was clearly over, but it was still working in the background.
I never logged my drinking, which was probably a mistake. Looking back, I would say after about two months my drinking was back to how it was before I started taking Nal. I’m sure if I had kept a log, I would have noticed the ebbs and flows where my consumption went up and down. I’ve always taken Nal religiously using The Sinclair Method, waiting at least an hour, sometimes 90 minutes, before drinking, and topping up if my session went beyond six hours. The audiobook really drilled that into me.
I’ve definitely had some nights where I’ve thought, “I’m much more sober than I would have been a few years ago, and the alcohol doesn’t taste great tonight either.” But I’ve also had nights where the last drink was never enough, and I ended up drinking right through any positive benefits Nal might have had.
After a year, I felt pretty disappointed that it wasn’t working as well as I’d hoped. It had seemed so promising at first. I kept reading stories on here about how it can take years for extinction to fully kick in. So I kept going, but one drink was never enough anymore, even with Nal. I had no side effects after the first few weeks and started to think I was becoming tolerant to it.
After a boozy holiday this summer, both my wife and I decided to take a month off drinking, something I hadn’t done since starting Nal but something we had done regularly in previous years.
I decided to be proactive during the month off and got lots of projects done around the house. I also spent more time on my hobbies and loved that I could go to the gym even on weekends. I decided to listen to as many alcohol help audiobooks as I could and got through five or six. During that month, I discovered some great alcohol-free drinks and didn’t really miss alcohol at all. My wife, who is a moderate drinker but drinks less than I do, kept mentioning how much she was missing having a drink. We saw some friends for lunch, and she was hesitant about going into the pub since we weren’t drinking. For some reason, it didn’t bother me at all. After the month was up, I actually didn’t feel like drinking again.
The month off, along with the encouragement from the audiobooks, had really put me off drinking. But we had agreed on a date for a hotel stay where we would have a drink. My wife was looking forward to it, so I took my Nal, and later we ordered cocktails at the bar. To be honest, the cocktail went down fine, but I wasn’t enjoying the dull feeling from the alcohol. We shared a bottle of wine with dinner, and I only had a small glass. I really wasn’t enjoying the taste or the feeling. I decided not to drink for the rest of the weekend, and I had no urge to. The following week I had a couple of glasses, but much less than usual. It’s been the same for the last month. It feels like I’m forcing myself to drink, and I don’t enjoy the dull feeling or the hangovers. I loved how I felt after two weeks of not drinking. Maybe it was a sober honeymoon, but I felt as good and relaxed as you do after one or two drinks, all the time!
My wife has been away for work for the past week, and that’s mainly why I’ve written this post. I work from home, and before, I would have used it as an excuse to drink whatever I wanted. I haven’t wanted a drink or had one since she’s been gone. I love her very much, but I’m almost not looking forward to her coming back tomorrow, as I know she’ll want to go out for some drinks. Whether I’ve truly reached extinction, or the break and audiobooks have given me a hard reset, I’m not sure.
TL;DR: After over two years of religiously following The Sinclair Method, but not doing much else to curb my drinking, what seems to have worked for me was taking a month off and listening to audiobooks.
Perhaps if I’d had some TSM therapy or tried some other methods rather than just taking the pills and carrying on as usual, things might have improved much quicker.

2024.11.15 14:59 PuppyGuile 35 [M4R] London UK – American in London looking for local friends for in person meet ups!
Hey there!
I’m a 35-year-old American who’s called the UK home for the past 5 years, and I’m on the lookout for some new in person friends. Currently living and working in London and despite traveling all over the world, realized London is my favorite city. Bonus points if you’re up for meeting my two fluffy dogs – because, let’s be honest, having dogs is a cheat code when it comes to making friends in the UK.
By day, I’m a product manager in the city, but my journey has taken me through some interesting twists, including time in the US Army and a stint at a luxury fashion company.
Outside of the 9 to 5 grind, you’ll find me picking things up and putting them down at the gym bright and early in the morning. I’ve stuck to my 2023 New Year’s resolution and have gone to the gym quite regularly; it’s become a source of pride. I’ve also recently gotten into reformer Pilates to increase my mobility. If you’re a fellow gym rat who competes with no one but the person you were yesterday, we’re bound to hit it off.
I’m also into improv comedy – I take classes and perform whenever I can. Originally, it was my way of finding a practical application for acting without fully committing to a career in it. It’s been super helpful, especially in dealing with feelings of anxiety as well. If you’re an improv geek too, I’d love to hear your experiences.
The pandemic lockdown brought out the mixologist in me, thanks to binging Mad Men. I love experimenting with cocktails and if you have a favorite cocktail and don’t mind providing the ingredients, I’d be happy to try and craft it for you! Despite never working in hospitality before (does being a busboy as a teenager for a week count?), I finished a week-long bartending course and have a new found respect for bartenders and all the stuff they have to do day in and day out. If you’re a bartender or have ever worked as one, would love to chat with you about your experiences!
And of course, I’m pretty basic too with your typical interests – sports (NCAA Football and NFL Football, with Army and the San Francisco 49ers as my teams), video games (League of Legends Wild Rift mainly, but really hopeful that EA Sports College Football 25 comes out on PC at some point because I don’t have a PS or Xbox), and TV shows (Succession, Better Call Saul/Breaking Bad, and Mad Men are my absolute favorites). I’m also trying to get in to reading for pleasure (currently reading Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke) and DIY-ing (recently bought a house and fixing what I can YouTube) but man do I have to work at it.
If any of this resonates with you, I’d love to connect! Whether it’s grabbing a drink, hitting the gym together, or just chatting about shared interests, I’m up for it. Drop me a chat request and let’s make something happen! Can’t think of an opener? What’s a challenging experience you’ve faced and how did it shape your perspective?
